These boots are made for walking....

Hello and always a warm welcome,

Thank you for being here;

We've all heard the old adage, “Don't judge someone until you've walked a mile in his shoes.” It's sound advice, so let's talk about how to take that walk.

Are you looking to try a new career or something new?

You may be asking how do I do this?

When a son left the shores of New Zealand to follow his heart to Australia 16 months ago he  did so with some concerns.

It meant he was leaving a good solid job ( working indoors in casual shoes) and income to a future of unknown financial security, as an unemployed visitor.

What should I do over there ?

I know I dont want to do what I was doing  in NZ...but I dont have the skills in anything else....

I reminded him as mothers do of his many strengths and qualities, then as he is an imaginative person I painted this mental picture for him.

I likened it to trying on a new pair of shoes.

You may think "OH I've only ever worn this style, or this colour shoe. I can't wear or walk in a different style"!

Yet what if you put them on anyway and walked a while in them?

Wore them for around 30/60 days - completely new footwear so as to get a true feel and fit for them.

I wonder if they walk in a way that is changing your perception of lifestyle and career path?

We all limit ourselves in so many unseen ways..

We decide what our colour is.

What our style is and we think suits us forever.

Or we see only the immediate skill set we have as all there is- yet what if?

What if we viewed life like the thrill of trying out something that is completely different- completely unknown and exciting?

When you want to transition from one career to another often it is we feel stuck with the financial difficulties around that. Dependent children, utility bills/mortgages and so on. Even the fears of failure, or tall poppy syndrome to name a few more.

Jim Rohan ( who authored many books including  The setting of your sails) suggests that you work full time on your wages and out of hours or part time on your future. As time passes and momentum builds you can work half time on wages and half time on your future , until eventually a full transition has completed.

Our son called on his trust in his journey, and the willingness to "walk/work anywhere and try anything different until his fit was found".

In conclusion he found employment easily with that mantra.

In fact he went from an inside office sitting all day doing customer  relationships calls to and outside all day walking the fields of the Brisbane area . He began as a newcomer in one of the large teams on a non salary..and worked as and when weather allowed.  Since then using his customer relations skillset, he  quickly stepped into the assistant team leader role. And recently became the team leader.. His next step ( in his now work boots) is area manager where he will be indoors and outdoors driving out to monitor the teams.

He has walked many many miles in his new work boots, in the fields in the hot sunshine ... a complete flip to his New Zealand role.

Are you willing to walk in wonder with new shoes?

What havent you tried?

MAREES MOTIVATIONAL WEEKLY QUOTE:

Be willing to walk in a new direction with a new fit and with wonder..because sure as holes in your socks nothing changes until you change it.

Go try something completely new  and wonder-ful.  And if you dont like the fit, there are plenty more to try!!

Now what  shoes shall I wear?

Walking with you all the way
