MAREES (MOAI) MOTIVATIONS

I was given a gift.
Recently we walked @ Papki Hillside walk in Martinborough.
As we walked back down the hill, we came across some red Poppies. . It was surreal that they were there...so we took a flower and decided to give it to Grandfather John Charles Garrity who like many had fought in the war. He is buried in Martinborough Cemetery.
The poppy was such a fitting and incredible find.
But it continued- we stopped for coffee in town. As we sat an impeccable gentleman arrived in an immaculate jaguar, adorning polished medals on the lapel of his tailored jacket.
With a walking stick in hand, he slowly made his way into a supermarket, then appeared after a short time and headed toward his car.
Alerting me as he buckled over and lent on the bonnet of his car. I sprang across the road to assist him. To find he was struggling for air.
He informed me through gestures and gasps of air that it was his lungs no longer doing what they used too.
I helped him with his groceries and then into the car where he had an inhaler and after a few good puffs- he was then ok.
How humbling it seemed.
This man, who was clearly so proud of his fight for freedom in past wars; could not have thanked me more and was so grateful.
Should it not have been me who was grateful to him, and the many many other soldiers who fought for us all.?
In his gratitude he also reminded me that good people are everywhere, good things happening, - when we choose to look and participate.
Lest we forget.
This is ANZAC.
