Mental or as I call it Mind illnesses are conditions involving changes in behavior, thinking or emotions that interfere with a person’s ability to do daily tasks or care for themselves.
Commomly known types are Anxiety and Mood disorders such as Depression, Schizophrenia and ADHD.
There are many other disorders such as Autism, Dissociative disorders, Eating disorders and Obsessive Compulsive disorder, also known as OCD.
People with mental illness may need a combination of treatments and talk therapy to get better.
NOTE
Find your match.
You cannot walk in another's man's shoes. It's important to find the professional that best matches your needs.. This may mean meeting more than one to find your fit.
FACT
Mental or as I call it mind illness is an illness, a dissorder.
It’may be a chemical imbalance, or low EQ ( something we dont get taught in schools) or responses to your past or a trauma, or environment. Causing the inability to manage from everyday life to overwhelming issues. Yet just like a broken leg or heart disease, it is symptomatic and requires the right care.
For some people, symptoms can be as listed below;
Some SIGNS of MIND ILLNESS
Mind illness rarely appears without warning. In the early stages before it is recognized, friends and family members may start to notice small changes.
They may feel something is not right about their loved one’s thinking, feelings or behavior.
Things like;
Social withdrawal or loss of interest in others
Drop in functioning at school, work or social activities
Thinking problems, which can involve concentration, memory or logical thought and speech
Increased sensitivity to sights, sounds, smells or touch
Lack of initiative or interest for involvement in activities
Feeling disconnected from oneself or one’s surroundings
Illogical thinking, including exaggerated beliefs about personal abilities to understand meanings or influence events
Nervousness or fear or suspicion of others
Unusual or peculiar behavior
Sleep, appetite or mood changes.
FACT;
Most people will experience a mental illness of some degree at some point in their life.
For some it is temporary, for others it needs professional care.. This is no different than at times we need to see a professional when our body is unwell.
The good news is that mental illness is highly treatable.
For example, more than 80 percent of people with depression get better after treatment.
As many as 90 percent of people with panic disorders/anxiety get better.
I have been to home visits for a client who suffered chronic anxiety and more and could not leave his home without a severe attack.
He is now at peace and working as a salesman selling products traveling all around NZ. I happened to see him recently parked on a road taking products into a store...where I was getting out of my car. We hugged and chatted,about how far he had come from those times of immense difficulty.. he beamed from ear to ear in gratitude.
